10 Ways to Make the Most of Sunday

In any given week, Sunday is a day that stands out for many of us. For those who attend church, it’s an opportunity not only to fellowship with other believers, but
also to intentionally draw closer to God and to grow in understanding and
faith. In order to maximize your Sunday experience, here are some key tips
gleaned from a recent podcast discussion between Drew and Tim.

Start Your Preparation Early

Your Sunday experience can start long before you pull into the church parking lot. As Drew emphasized, preparation should start during the week. Review the previous
Sunday’s sermon, check your church’s social media content, and spend time in
prayer, especially focused prayer for the upcoming Sunday.

Sunday Should Not Be Optional

Even when life gets busy – and it almost always does – let’s always schedule other
activities around church, not the other way round. Make attending church a
priority; think of it as a ‘do not miss’ meeting. Apart from unavoidable
circumstances, like vacations or sickness, make every effort to attend each
Sunday.

Show Up

“Arriving on time for Sunday service means you respect the importance it has,”
stresses Tim. It allows you to be ready to actively participate in worship and
to give your full attention to the sermon when it starts.

Staying Engaged

Taking notes throughout the sermon is a great way to keep engaged. It not only aids memory but is a fantastic resource during the week when you revisit the lessons
learned. Also, Sundays should be more than just a passive experience.
Participate. Be it through serving coffee, ushering, or being part of a
ministry, find a way to actively take part in your church community.

Responding to the Word

Reaction to the preached word shouldn’t end when the service does. Prayerful consideration and application of the sermon during the week is crucial if the Word is to take root and bring about transformation in our lives.

Staying Connected

Continually engage with your church community during the week. Following up with the people you interact with, staying connected enables mutual encouragement and gives room for collective ministering to take place.

Practice and Apply

Lastly, once you know what you need to work on, make sure to put those lessons to practice. Pick one thing from the sermon that resonated with you and find ways to
incorporate it into your daily life.

Finally, keep in mind that this is not about ticking off boxes, but about getting the
most from your Sunday experience and deepening your relationship with God.
Start implementing some of these steps, and you just might find your Sundays
becoming more meaningful than ever before.
