Discerning Moment: Taste and See

Psalm 34:8- Taste and see that the Lord is good

Have you ever had an amazing food experience and tried to explain it to someone else? It’s not easy. The passion you feel for the food you ate can be described in detail but your audience listening to it cannot truly understand what it was like unless they go there themselves.

My friend recently described a burger he ate recently that was the “best burger he ever had.” It was a peanut butter and pickle burger at a place I had never been. He tried to explain in detail why it was so good and what they did differently there compared to other burger places. In my head I thought it sounded kind of gross but I realized that I cannot make a definitive judgement unless I try it for myself, in which case, it could truly be amazing.

We talk to others about God or we can learn about Him, but unless we “taste and see” that He is good, it is just head knowledge. What does that truly mean though to taste and see? It means being completely sold out to Jesus, not putting our toe in the water and saying it’s too cold. It’s jumping in feet first to an invigorating experience that we were designed for.

If you are sitting on the fence, gaining some knowledge about God but still unsure, I would encourage you to taste and see that God is good. No amount of books, debates, or famous quotes can replace the experience of knowing Jesus and the power of His resurrection.
